드라마 〈마더〉에 재현된 스토리텔러의 위상 = Status of a Storyteller Represented in Mother : Focusing on Being a Mother & Daughters’ Stories

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대사회에서 가장 효과적으로 많은 독자/관객을 동원하는 매체는 TV라 할 수 있다. 특히 주 2회 연속극의 경우 정돈된 이야기 속에 인물의 성격구현이 이루어지고, 압축적 진행을 통해 시청자에게 많은 울림을 남기기도 한다. 짧지만 강렬했던 드라마〈마더〉는 화면에 담긴 특별한 내용을 통해 다양한 지평을 만들어 내고 있다. 우선 모녀관계에 대한 새로운 시각이 발생할 수 있는 면모를 가진 드라마라는 점에서 연구의 목적을 찾을 수 있다. 특히 딸의 이야기 뿐 아니라, 아들의 이야기 역시 중요한 장치로 작동하고 있다는 점에서 분석의 필요성이 제기된다. 더불어 스토리텔러로서의 혜나의 역할은 극을 더욱 탄탄하게 이끌어주는 기제라는 점에서 궁극적인 연구의 목적이 된다. 두 딸의 이야기가 가장 중심적인 요소로 작용하는 가운데, 그들의 각기 다른 두 엄마의 이야기 역시 엄마 되기의 스토리텔링 미학을 구성하는 핵심 요소라 할 수 있다. 더불어 아동에 대한 학대를 일삼는 폭력의 공간에는 설악이라는 인물이 존재하고 있다. 사람들은 설악에 대해 공감할 수 없으나 그의 이야기 역시 모두의 가슴을 아프게 하는 면이 있다. 이렇게 희생양도 아닌 채 의미 없는 죽음을 맞게 되는, 학대당한 아이들은 모두 “호모 사케르”라 부를 만하다. 호모 사케르로 전락하는 상황에 놓인 혜나의 스토리텔러 역할은 많은 공감과 슬픔을 이끌어내면서 이 극의 의미와 주제를 고조시킨다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Recently a TV serial drama, Mother, stuck a deep chord. In this, a variety of social issues, such as child abuse and domestic violence, are well-wrought in order to cover main characters’ life stories. Shown in the title, we can find interwoven stories between four main mothers and their daughters, as well as a story from a mother-son relationship. Dumped into a plastic bag, Hyena, a main storyteller of this drama, was found by Su-jin, who would be her genuine mother. Their escape from reality means to form and develop a mother-daughter relationship by kidnapping Hyena. However, after being kidnapped by Seorak(Hyena’s biological mother’s man), Hyena appears as a storyteller for floating Seorak’s sad story buried in his subconsciousness onto the surface of consciousness. In the end, Su-jin was arrested but Ja-young’s guilt revealed altogether. Thus, in the process of being a mother, stories of daughters-Su-jin and Hyena—are disclosed on court. Moreover, good relationship between mother and daughter is of importance for child’s growth.
