This study examines the relationships among need for cognition, leisure life, and academic life in high school students. The subjects were 40 males and 40 females who attended at a co-ed high school in Seoul. Data was collected through questionnaires. Students' academic life was measured by two criteria : academic interests and grades. Students' leisure life was also measured by two criteria: currently enrolled extra-curricula activities at school and preferred leisure-time activities if not limited by time or money.
Results showed that need for cognition was significantly related to academic interests while it was net significantly related to glades. In addition, need for cognition was significantly related to preferred leisure-time activities while it was not significantly related to currently enrolled extra-curricula activities at school. These results suggest that need for cognition might be related to students' academic and leisure life only when external conditions such as pressure for school achievement or time are controlled.
