This paper purports to suggest recommendations for promoting traditional martial arts education of Muye-24gi (24 Forms of Martial Arts) practiced by soldiers of Jangyongyeong Royal Guard of Suwon Hwaseong by examining the reenactment of Muye-24gi and related martial arts educational contents and educational activities conducted by the local communities and museums to restore and popularize the martial arts. Accordingly, restoring and promoting the martial arts practiced by Jangyongyeong would be of great importance for the community identity and history of Suwon. Moreover, the martial arts educational activities organized by citizens and martial arts education offered by primary and secondary schools including the Suwon Hwaseong Museum are contributing to the development of cultural and education contents while strengthening national spirit and local identity. As such Muye-24gi is an important cultural performance contents that symbolizes the culture of Suwon. At the same time, as an original cultural form it can provide new touristic contents related to the UNESCO World Heritage Hwaseong Fortress. This paper recommends new interpretations of traditional martial arts and creation of martial arts characteristics with modern designs and various cultural and educational contents. Such endeavors will contribute greatly to not only the promotion of school education related to the UNESCO World Heritage Hwaseong Fortress, but also the search of cultural and educational contents to strengthen the community culture for the local residents.
