This study examined the mediating effect of paternal involvement on the relationship between mother’s overdependence on smartphone and warm parenting behavior. To this end, data surveyed on the mothers of children aged 3-5 attending two kindergartens in Seoul were collected through surveys. Frequency and reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted through SPSS 29.0, and the indirect effects of mediating variables were verified using Process Macro. The results indicated a negative correlation between mothers’ smartphone overdependence, warm parenting behavior, and paternal involvement. It was found that the lower a mother’s overdependence on her smartphone, the more positive her parenting behavior was, and the paternal involvement had a mediating effect. This study indicates the importance of paternal involvement to the mother-child bond along with the significance of mothers’ use of smartphones and parenting attitude on the healthy development of children. The results provide an in-depth understanding of the role of parents and their digital devices in raising children and suggests directions for related research in the future.
