The purpose of this study was to examine the meister high school students' perception on their school life and careers in a bid to provide useful information for the development of meister high schools and their career guidance. The subjects or this study were 560 students who were in the first year in four different meister high schools. Out of the meister high schools, two were located in South Gyeongsang Province, and one each was located in North Gyeongsang Province and Gyeonggi Province. Major findings of the study were as follows:
First, as to satisfaction level with school life, the meister high school students were satisfied with their school life in general. Specifically, they were most satisfied with academic education and guidance.
Second, the meister high school students were aware of the employment agreement and the employment pact to some extent, which were the selection conditions of meister high schools. And they went to the schools since the schools could put them in a better position to get a job after graduation.
Third, as for their awareness of career, they wanted to get a job at a large corporation the most after graduation, and the reason was that college graduation didn't always guarantee employment.
Fourth, in relation to career guidance, the majority gave a positive answer that career guidance was offered in a tolerable manner. But most of the students never received career counseling from career counselors, which implied that more dynamic career guidance should be provided for them to be confident of their future career. Concerning how to ensure the sustainable growth of meister high schools, the students asked for more field-work opportunities at large corporations and exemption from military service.
