Stimuli-responsive polymers and block copolymers change their chemical and physical properties in response to external stimuli. Of particular interest is to synthesize polymers that respond to biological stimuli in physiologically relevant conditions, which might enable to design and create new smart delivery vehicles and sensors. We have been studying organoboronic acid-containing polymers and block copolymers as glucose-responsive materials. We will discuss the synthesis and self-assembly of these block copolymers, and also suggest self-assembled nanostructures of boronic acid-containing block copolymers as self-regulating delivery vehicles and sensors.
