As an effort to develop more efficient and environmentally friendly system for excavator, boom regeneration system has been widely taken into account. The mid-size electric excavator, which is manufactured in 2013 through the government R&D project, also adopted the boom regeneration system. In the regeneration system, a hydraulic motor is drived by tank return flow on boom down operation and an electric motor combined with a motor generates electric energy. The electric energy is once stored in battery and reused in next operation. In this paper, the structure and mechanism of the boom regeneration system are introduced. Furthermore, the algorithm which is designed for achieving energy efficiency and performance and test results for validation are explained.
