로뻬와 띠르소 연극에 나타난 바로크적 요소의 민속적 구현 = Folkloric Implementation of Baroque Elements shown in Lope and Tirso`s plays

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A play is a useful means that can examine the social aspects at that time. Therefore, the plays of Lope and Tirso that can be referred to be the most representative playwriters in Spain in the 17th century can be said to be one of the most basic and critical paths in examining and understanding tradition and folkloric patterns of the Spanish society at that time. By examining the plays of these two playwriters reflecting Baroque tendency which was the new aesthetic flow at that time with a folkloric perspective that has not been attempted, this paper is to attempt a new work of connecting Baroque and folklore. To this end, values that can be connected with folkloric aspects at that time should be selected from Baroque tendencies reflected in the plays of these two playwriters and conservative nature of Baroque, ‘fortune’ of Baroque and ‘external essence’ of Baroque may be Baroque values corresponding to them. Conservative nature of Baroque was implemented through a specific custom called ‘primogeniture’ that had existed in the Spanish society at that time in the plays of these two playwriters and Baroque value of ‘fortune’ means fixed systems and rules present in the society, opposition and skepticism against the stable status system and this tendency was described as a specific custom that existed in the society at that time, dangerous love between male and female with different status in the plays at that time. Also, ‘external essence’ of things noted by Baroque is the concept originated from the view regarding all things and phenomena present in the world as variable, unstable and deceptive beings and means that there is no choice but to stick to nature shown of worldly things, i.e. ‘external essence’ because the nature of things constantly change after all. This concept is connected to then society’s unusual and unique sense of virtue more emphasizing how the woman``s chastity is shown to others than the chastity itself of a woman in the plays at that time and unusual customs related to this. As shown above, it turned out that the new aesthetic flow called Baroque around the beginning of the 17th century was being implemented through the folkloric aspects of the society at the time in the plays.
