경찰공무원의 의사결정유형이 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향 = The Effects of Decision Making Styles of Korean Police Officers on Job Stress

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this study, previous studies related to police decision-making were reviewed and the acutual situation was analyzed through an empirical analysis targeting police officers belonging to the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency(N=296). The results of the analysis using the general decision-making style(GDMS) scale are as follows.
First, ths decision-making styles of Korean police officers appeared in the order of rational(M=3.750), dependent(M=3.656), spontaneous(M=2.927), intuitive(M=2.778), and avoidant(M=2.541). Second, the background variables of police officers(gender, age, education) were found to have a limited effect on the decision-making types. The only statistically significant difference was the gender difference in rational decision making. Third, the working environment variables of police officers were found to have a certain influence on the decision-making types. Statistically significant differences were identified in ranks, working offices, and functional departments. Finally, avoidant decisions had a negative effect on police officers’ job stress. Specifically, the higher the level of avoidant decision-making, the higher the job stress, and this effect was found to be maintained even after the backgound and working environment variables were controlled.
Based on these research results, some implication for the police organization and future research needs were suggested.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 경찰의사결정과 관련된 선행연구를 고찰하고 대구경찰성 소속 경찰공무원(N=296)을 대상으로 일반의사결정유형(GDMS) 척도를 활용, 실증분석을 통해 그 실태를 확인해 보았다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 한국 경찰공무원들의 의사결정 유형은 합리적(M=3.750), 의존적(M=3.656), 즉흥적(M=2.927), 직관적(M=2.778), 그리고 회피적(M=2.541) 유형의 순서로 나타났다. 다음으로, 경찰공무원의 배경변수(성별, 연령, 학력)가 의사결정유형에 미치는 영향은 제한적인 것으로 나타났다. 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 합리적 결정에서의 성별 차이뿐이었다. 다음으로, 경찰공무원의 근무환경변수는 의사결정유형에 일정한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 계급, 근무관서, 근무부서 등에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이들이 확인되었다. 마지막으로, 회피적 결정은 경찰공무원의 직무스트레스에 부정적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 구체적으로 회피적 의사결정 수준이 높아질수록 직무스트레스도 더욱 높아지며, 이러한 영향은 배경과 근무환경 변수들이 통제된 이후에도 유지되는 것으로 나타났다.
이 연구결과를 바탕으로 향후 경찰에게 필요한 시사점과 후속 연구 방향 등에 대하여 살펴보았다.
