The objectives of the present study are to identify factors influencing urban elderly poverty, and to suggest proper policies to solve the problem emerging as a big issue under the Korea``s rapid aging society Logistic regressions were used to analyze the factors contributing to elderly poverty by using household, sociodemographic, and labor-market participation variables. The results from logistic regression analysis show that all variables except spouse presence or absence have significant influences. The younger(55~64) the elderly, the lower their education, the larger the number of their household, and the more family members in work, the less the degree of poverty of the family becomes. Also those who have own houses and live in metropolitan areas suffer less from the poverty. The discussion of the results is inclusive and various; the industrialization, income disparity between generations, and changing demographic structure and family structure and life types. We expect this study to help poor elderly to escape from poverty stratus by suggesting efficient polices
