In the 21th century as called the era of image, in every cultural business, the amusements of regenerated images are more persuasive than the actuality and the actuality is reborn with a new value and a new meaning. Films are not just motion pictures. They have the characteristics of the total arts presenting pictorial images that are experienced in time, space, life, music, and literature of a generation. Therefore, films act a part in cultural transition, the function of the mass media, and greatly influence on the society and culture in general. Particularly, a film as a image communication, shows its capability to generate various characters through character make-up and playes a significant role in enhancing visual effects. Character make-up has become a creative genre generating a character instead of just completing or fixing the face of a performer.
This study attempted to show how many images one actor can display in many different films and to investigate the effects of characters generated by character make-up on films. Study methods were literature review in relation to society, culture and art; and reviews of literature and previous studies from the inside and the outside of the country, internet resources, DVDs in relation to character image creation with facial makeup. In this study, it was attempted to show how makeup, hairdo, and clothing of Johnny Depp, an actor, affected on the expression of characters. It was learned that how important parts makeup, hairdo and clothing took in creating a character more than the performance of an actor in producing a film. To develop diverse characters, studies from different aspects should be conducted and various materials should be developed.
