A Study on the Pursuit of Good Luck and the Avoidance of Misfortune in the Four Pillars of Destiny : A Focus in the Ten Gods

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간은 누구나 행복한 삶을 기원한다. 이것은 사람만이 가지고 있는 특성이고 고유권한이다. 태고 이래 인간은 누구나 자신의 안위를 위해 미래를 예측하고자 했고 이를 위해 운명학을 발전시켰다. 운명학은 크게 명, 점, 상의 세 가지 분야로 발전하였다. 이 세 가지 분야는 어느 것이 더 뛰어나고 더욱 높은 적중률을 지니는 것은 아니다.
그 중 명은 생년월일의 개인 출생 정보를 육십갑자로 변환하여 운명을 예측하는데, 개인의 성격, 지적 능력과 인간관계를 역학적으로 설명해 준다. 개인의 사주는 운에 관한 모든 관련 정보를 가지고 있다. 운을 알면 적당한 기회에 우리가 성공할 가능성이 있는 것들을 선택하고 행동함으로써 우리의 삶을 더욱 발전시킬 수 있다.
명리학에서의 비보로는 세가지 방법이 있을 수 있는데 첫째는 직접적 방법, 둘째는 정신적 방법, 그리고 셋째는 육친적 요소를 활용한 방법이다.
첫째, 직접적 수복피흉 방법으로는 자신의 몸에 착용하는 귀걸이나 옷의 색으로 보완하는 법이라 하겠다. 몸에 착용하는 귀걸이는 미적인 요소도 있지만 빈약한 귀밥을 보완하여 부유한 관상을 만들어 줄 수도 있을 것이다. 혹은 옷의 색으로 자신에게 부족한 오행의 색을 보완하는 것도 한 방법이라고 하겠다. 이러한 방법은 무속인들이 많이 사용하는데 명리학적으로도 신빙성이 있다고 보여진다.
둘째, 정신적 수복피흉의 방법이 있는데 부적을 쓰는 것이다. 부적은 과학적으로 그 효과를 증명할 수는 없으나 부적을 지니는 사람은 그 것에 특별한 의미를 부여함으로써 힘을 받는다.이것은 의사가 플라시보 효과의 약을 처방을 하는 것과 같다고 할 수 있겠다.
셋째, 명리의 육친적 요소로 수복피흉을 하는 방법이 있는데 배득중화의 의미에서 용신을 활용하는 방법이라고 하겠다. 명리에서의 육친론은 사회구성의 기본단위인 가족이라는 개념에 오행을 연결시켜 개인의 사주를 해석할 수 있게 해주어서 복잡다단한 인간사의 길흉을 해석할 수 있다. 또한 육친론을 통해 사주의 필요 부분을 충족시키고 태과한 요소는 설기시켜 조화롭고 풍요로운 삶을 누릴 수 있도록 한다.
본 논문에서는 명리의 육친적 요소를 활용하여 수복피흉을 하는 방법에 대해 연구하여 적절한 시기에 우리가 성공할 가능성이 있는 것들을 결정함으로써 당면한 삶의 문제를 극복하고 삶의 만족도를 높이며 성공과 행복을 추구할 수 있도록 하는데 목적이 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Four Pillars of Destiny converts one’s birth chart that consists of birth year, month, day, and hour; into information that can be used to predict a person’s future, analyze personal character and intellectual capacity, and analyze dynamics in relationships. This conversion is possible because a person’s birth chart contains all the relevant information regarding the fortune and future of the person. Knowing this information about one’s fortune and future allows us to grab the right opportunities by choosing and acting on those that have better potential to succeed.
There would be three methods for the action. The first is the direct method, the second is the psychological method, and the third is using Ten Gods in Four Pillars of Destiny.
The first one, the direct method, is using colors. We can use the colors of the clothes or accessories that we wear and supplement the elements that are insufficient in their Four Pillars. This kind of method is often used by shamans, however this method has been considered credible and efficient in the Four Pillars System.
The second method, the psychological method, is using talismans. We cannot prove the effect of talismans scientifically, however, people put special meaning and belief into them to create and receive positive influence, such as hope, from it. This could be the same as a placebo effect in which a doctor would prescribe fake medicines to boost the patient’s hope and expectations, leading to the recovery of the patient. Obviously, the medicine itself does not have any actual medicinal effect; however, patients believe in the medicine with the hope that they will be cured and actually get better.
The third is using the Ten Gods in Four Pillars of Destiny. Balancing the Five Elements is important in the Four Pillars System, and to balance them one can use Ten Gods. In the Four Pillars of Destiny, we can analyze strengths and weaknesses in a birth chart, utilizing the Ten Gods which are connected with the Five Elements for possible improvements.
This paper intends to study the third method of utilization of Ten Gods and relationships in the Four Pillars of Destiny to improve one’s weaknesses in their fortune and future by taking energy away from excessive elements and complementing insufficient elements to make our lives harmonious and affluent. By this, people can focus on opportunities, and their potential to success and have happier lives.
