국문 초록 (Abstract)

전통장르 판소리 <춘향가>의 캐릭터들을 변화해 새롭게 탄생한 영화 <방자전>, 드라마 <쾌걸 춘향>은 모두 상업적으로 성공했고, 광고 <신춘향전 1>은 좋은 광고상을 수상했다. 이 세작품은 전통장르의 캐릭터들을 성공적으로 활용한 사례라 평가할 수 있다.
영화 <방자전>, 드라마 <쾌걸 춘향>, 광고 <신향단전 1>의 캐릭터들을 전통장르의 캐릭터들과 유사하지만 새로운 성격을 가진 인물들로 변화하였음을 알 수 있다. 이렇게 달라진 캐릭터들은 전통장르의 인물들과 다른 인간관계를 형성하고, 새로운 사건과 갈등을 발생시켜 전통장르와는 다른 결론에 도달해 전통장르와 다른 이야기를 새롭게 완성한다. 또한 향유자들은 이미 전통장르에 대해 알고 있기 때문에 새로운 작품에서 기존과 차이를 발견하면서 즐거움을 찾고, 새로운 작품은 새로운 작품 그 자체로 새롭게 즐길 수 있게 되었다. 즉, 단일 작품으로 복수의 즐거움을 누릴 수 있어 그 즐거움의 폭이 깊고 넓어졌다고 평가할 수 있다. 이는 전통장르의 캐릭터의 변화가 있었기에 가능한 결과였기에 앞으로도 전통장르의 캐릭터 활용은 주목할 필요있다고 판단된다.
