외모콤플렉스를 치료하는 상담학과 미용예술학의 통합에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

얼마 전 한 화장품 CF에 “여자가 아름다운 것은 경쟁력이다”라는 문구가 나온 적이 있었다. CF가 방영되자 거센 비난이 쏟아지면서 결국 다른 문구로 바뀌어버렸지만, 요즘 우리 사회의 “외모 지상주의”를 극명하게 드러낸 해프닝이었다는 점에서 한 동안 화제가 되었었다.
외모가 자신의 생애에 중요한 영향을 미친다고 생각하는 사람들은 대부분 자신의 모습에 만족하지 못하고 더 예뻐지고 싶은 욕망에 사로잡혀, ‘K 탈렌트의 눈이라도 닮았으면, C 영화배우의 입술이라도 닮았으면’ 하며 선망의 대상을 세워 놓고 자신의 모습과 끊임없이 비교하며 심리적으로 고통당하고 있다. 이것을 곧 ‘외모콤플렉스’라고 하는데, 꽃 미남, 꽃 미녀들이 득세하는 이 사회에서 “외모 지상주의자”들에게 “외모콤플렉스”에 빠지면 안 된다고 말하는 것은 역설일지도 모르겠다. 외모가 그 사람의 평가기준의 하나가 된 우리 사회의 잘못된 가치관이 외모에 대한 심리적 부담감을 주고, 그것이 그들의 의식과 생활에 중대한 작용을 하기 때문이다.
외모콤플렉스는 이렇게 생활 속에서 갈등을 일으키기도 하고, 새로 만나는 사람 앞에서 소극적이고 의기소침하게 만들기도 해서 원만한 대인관계가 어렵고 다른 사람을 대할 때도 외모에 집착하게 되어 자괴감에 빠질 수 있다. 또한 이러한 열등감이 심해지면 대인 기피증이나 우울증이 나타나기도 하며 또 편집증적으로 성형수술에 매달리거나, 날씬해지고 싶어 다이어트에 지나치게 집착하기 때문에 아무 음식도 먹을 수 없어 결국 굶어 죽는 신경성 식욕 부진이라는 정신 질환이 나타나기도 한다. 하지만 자신의 외모에 콤플렉스라고 생각하는 부분이 이 세상에서 오직 유일하고 독특한, 그 어느 누구하고도 비교할 수 없는 가장 매력적인 장점으로 바뀔 수 있다는 사실이다.
하나님이 창조하신 이 세상의 모든 사람들은 누구나 할 것 없이 단점도 가지고 있고, 또 한 가지 이상의 매력 포인트와 장점도 가지고 있다. 그러나 외모콤플렉스에 걸린 사람들은 장점은 보지 못하고 오직 단점만 바라보며 탄식하고 있을 뿐이다.
아름다움의 기준은 주관적인 것이지만, 이처럼 비합리적이고 부정적인 신념을 가진 사람은 하나님이 주신 자신의 외모에 감사하며 자존감을 가지고 잘 계발시켜 관리하는 대신에 자신의 외모가 다른 사람의 외모보다 더 못하다는 심리적 갈등으로 고통을 당하고 있다는 점이다.
그러므로 그들의 장점을 찾아서 계발시키고 단점을 보완하며 그들이 받아 온 심리적인 상처를 예수님의 사랑으로 치료해 주면 누구라도 자신에게 어울리는 빛나는 이미지와 개성을 가지고 행복하게 살아갈 수가 있을 것이다.
따라서 이 “외모콤플렉스를 치료하는 상담학과 미용예술학의 통합에 관한 연구”(An Integrative Study On Counseling & Cosmetology to treat outward Inferiority Complex)는 이 외모지상주의 시대에 외모 콤플렉스로 고통당하는 기독교인이나 비기독교인들의 부정적이고 비합리적인 신념을 기독교 상담학적인 접근법이나 심리학적인 접근법을 통하여 합리적이고 긍정적인 신념으로 바꿔 줄 것이다. 또 그들의 상처받은 심정에 예수님의 사랑으로 가득 채워 주며, 동시에 미용예술학적인 접근법을 통하여 내담자의 외모에 콤플렉스가 되는 부분을 이미지 컨설팅을 통하여 케어해서 자신만의 독특하고 유일한 매력 포인트로 깨닫고 인정하고 자아 존중감을 가지고 건강하게 사회생활을 할 수 있도록 도움을 주는 새로운 접근법이 되기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Once there was a phrase, "WOMEN'S BEAUTY IS A COMPETITIVE POWER", for the cosmetic CF(Commercial film). Just after that CF had telecasted, there were lots of criticism. So that issued phrase was changed. But it had been talked about so long time because it showed strongly our social 'LOOKISM' in the era.
People who believe outward appearance is really important for their entire life are not satisfied with their external features. They make an object of envy among the famous beautiful women like "the eyes of K tv talent or the mouth of C actress". And they have been psychologically suffering from that comparison with their outward appearance.
This can be called 'Outward Inferiority Complex'. It could be a paradox if we advise who think Lookism is everything not to indulge in Outward Inferiority Complex. Because Pin-up boy and Pin-up girl are the most important topic in this society. Judging by external features is our social wrong values. These wrong values make people feel burdensome and have influence on their mind and social life.
Outward Inferiority Complex makes many problems in the people's lives. As they meet new fellows passively or in low spirits, personal relationship must be hard and they can be tormented by good-looking features. This terrible inferiority complex will make social phobia, hypochondria, and dangerous mental disorder like an anorexia nervosa or bulimia because of the monomaniac plastic surgery operation or obsessive diet.
However, the Outward Inferiority Complex part may turn out the unique, peculiar, and beyond comparison merits in this world.
Everybody in this world created by GOD has both merits and demerits. But people who have the Outward Inferiority Complex sigh for their demerits as they just ignore their own merits.
Even though the standard of beauty is subjective, this unreasonable and negative belief makes psychological complication. Because they envy other people's appearance instead of developing their God-given external features thankfully and proudly.
Therefore if we find out and develope their own merits as look after their demerits, moreover we take care of their psychological agony with the love of Jesus Christ, they can live happily with their shining own images and personalities.
Consequently this "Integrative Study On Counseling & Cosmetology to Treat Outward Inferiority Complex" may be the new way to approach christian or non-christian who suffer from the Outward Inferiority Complex based on unreasonable and negative belief to change into reasonable and affirmative belief through the way of christian counselling or psychology as filling their hurt heart with the love of Jesus Christ.
And through the image consulting care in the way of Cosmetology, the part of Outward Inferiority Complex could be the unique and charming points. Accordingly I hope it will be a new approach to help people be happy in the social relationship with the self-esteem.
