This article tries to determine the building's arrangement of the Royal Palace in Silla and it's transition. In early days, kings of the Silla dynasty lived in Geumseong(金城). King Pasa went over to Weolseong(月城), hereafter kings lived in that while the Silla dynasty is existed. In the 6th century, a period of King Jinpyeong's reign, the Royal Palace(王宮) was comprised with the Main Hall(正殿) and Jo-dang(朝堂), the Interior Hall(正殿). The former was place where king and his vassals put heads together the affairs of stste and Country's Ceremony was held. The latter was place where the king and queen lived their daily life. Nam-dang(南堂: a place where king and vassals conferred the affairs of state) was located in the south of the Royal Palace. This comprised with main building where was provided with king's seat, the southern office-hall(南廳) and northern office-hall(北廳) that was made up twin building of the east and west direction, extensive court, the main door. In the King Beopheung's reign, such Royal Palace's frame was prepared, and I guess that it's building arrangement was very simple in the proceeding days.
In the middle of the 7th century, a period of Queen Jindeok's reign, Silla constructed Joweon-Hall(朝元殿), namely the Main Hall of the Royal Palace, which was an exact copy of the Taegueg-Hall(太極殿), that is the Main Hall of Tang dynasty's Royal Palace. The Country's Ceremony included the one that celebrated the first day of the New Year was held in that place. In the 19th year of King Munmu's reign, Silla government builded the Crown Palace(東宮), Sungrye-Hall(崇禮殿), and in a period of Unified Silla builded the Southern Palace(南宮) and the Northern Palace(北宮) in the south and north of the Weolseong. Besides Silla government made rearrangememt the Government Office Buildings between the Gyerim(鷄林) and Cheonnseongdae(瞻星臺). The result of Silla government's frequent construction was enlarged the boundary of the Royal Palace to the outer of Weolseong. The Royal Palace that comprised with Weolseong and newly enlarged boundary, the people of Silla named it Manweolseong(滿月城: a castle of the shape of a full moon).
