EU 신입국의 민족 문화 정체성 연구 - 크로아티아 역사 논쟁을 중심으로 - = A Study on the National-Cultural Identity of the EU’s New Member : Focused on the Historical debates of Croatia

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this study, I will analyze on the national-cultural identity of the EU's new member focused on the historical debates of Croatia, from the settlement of the Croats in the region of Adrian Sea to the early 12th century which the Croatian Medieval Kingdom was under the control of the Hungary. In particular, I will study how much croatian historians are trying to make a establishment of their own national identity, and how to be discussed on the historical reinterpretation with these 3 main historical events: first is the settlement of the Croats and the expansion of the roman Catholic church, second is, the acceptance of latin characters and the transition to the Catholic under the independent medieval kingdom, and third is the debates on the hungarian domination.
The structure of this paper is as follows: In the chapter II, I will introduce how to make debating between serbian and croatian historians on a settlement of the Croats in the Balkan, and how much expansion of the roman Catholic church had an influence on the Croats. In the chapter III, I will analyze what was the historical selection of the Croats who were located on crossroad between the Eastern and Western Church, and what did the adoption of Catholic and latin characters mean in the Croatia's history. In the chapter IV, I will explain what were the reinterpretations of croatian historians on the collapse of their own medieval kingdom.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2013년 7월 크로아티아의 EU 가입은 유럽내 비(非)EU권 지역으로 분류되고 있는 ‘서부발칸(Western Balkan)’ 국가들의 EU 가입을 향한 첫 신호탄이 되었다. 하지만, 크로아티아인들은 오랜 외세 지배로 인해 ‘주권의 맛(a taste of sovereignty)’을 충분히 향유하지 못하여 왔고, 또한 그 역사 속에서 지배 민족들의 방해로 인해 자신들만의 독자적 민족, 문화 정체성 수립에도 어려움을 겪어야만 했었다. 따라서 크로아티아인들은 고유한 민족, 문화 정체성이 수립되지 못하고 주권의 맛을 만끽하기 이전에 진행된 EU 가입 논의와 국민투표에 일련의 거부감을 지녔다고 분석할 수 있다.
본 연구는 크로아티아 민족주의 역사가들이 제기해왔던 독자적 민족 정체성 수립 및 역사 재해석에 있어 가장 큰 논쟁의 중심에 서 있는 세 가지 역사적 사건들을 중심으로, 이를 둘러싼 논쟁과 그 의미에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 우선 제 2장에선 크로아티아인들의 발칸유럽 정착을 둘러싸고 전개되고 있는 크로아티아와 세르비아 양국 역사가들 간의 논쟁을 설명하고자 한다. 이와 함께, 가톨릭 전신인 로마 교회의 영향력 확대가 크로아티아 민족에게 어떻게 다가왔는지에 대해 소개하고자 한다. 제 3장에서는 크로아티아 중세 왕국의 수립을 둘러싸고 전개된 동·서 교회 간의 갈등 속에서, 양대 교회의 최전선에 자리한 크로아티아 중세 왕국의 역사적 선택은 어떠했는지, 그리고 그 과정에서 전환된 라틴문자 수용과 가톨릭 선택은 훗날 역사 속에서 크로아티아 민족에게 어떤 의미로 다가오게 되었는지를 분석하고자 한다. 제 4장에서는 크로아티아 중세 왕국의 몰락과 헝가리의 지배 시작을 둘러싸고, 이에 대한 크로아티아의 역사적 재해석 노력들을 확인할 수 있을 것이다.
