고려 금속활자 연구의 흐름과 새로운 변화

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 이제까지 연구된 고려 금속활자 연구에 대하여 시기별로 개관하면서 그 흐름을 살펴보고 최근의 증도가자 발굴에 이르기까지 각 시기별 연구의 특징과 성격을 유형화 해 본 것이다. 그 유형은 대체로 1. 고려 금속활자의 초창기 연구, 2. 『백운화상초록직지심체요절』의 재발견과 관련 연구, 3. 연구자료의 확대와 주제의 다양화, 4. ‘증도가자’의 발견과 새로운 변화 등 시기별로 구분된다. 고려 금속활자에 대한 연구는 『백운화상초록불조직지심체요절』발견이전과 이후로 크게 구분가능하고 실질적인 많은 연구가 발견 이후에 이루어졌다. 이 글은 증도가자 발견이전의 연구에 대하여 그 연구사적 흐름을 검토하고 앞으로 있을 발견 이후의 연구 과제를 예측해보는 의미에서 작성되었다. 앞으로의 연구는 ‘증도가자’ 발견 이전과 이후로 다시 구분될 수 있을 것이다. 증도가자의 발견으로 예측되는 기원설의 재검토, 실물활자와 인본 조사의 확대, 주조방법, 조판방법에 관한 기술사적 재검토 등 연구과제로 삼을 수 있는 몇 가지 논의를 정리해서 살펴보았다. 이와 같은 연구방식은 고려 금속활자의 연구사적 정리와 더불어 새롭게 발굴된 증도가자의 학술적 검증을 위해 진행되어야할 연구방향을 제시하는데 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다. 현재까지의 연구 경향을 살펴보았을 때 대체로 문헌적 근거를 찾는 노력과 더불어 기술사적인 측면의 연구가 보완되고 실험적인 연구가 좀 더 다양하게 진행되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This content, which showed up-to-date research of the Goryeo’s Metal-type Printing by period and was examined by trend with the latest excavation of ‘Jeungdogaza’, is categorized by features and characteristics of timely research. The category is generally divided into four parts. 1. The research of the early Goryeo’s Metal-type Printing. 2. Re-discovery of ‘Baekwunhwasangchorockjickjisimchaiyojeul’ and related research. 3. Variety of the subject and expansion of research data. 4. The Discovery of ‘Jeungdogaza’ and new trend. The Research of the Goryeo’s Metal-type Printing is largely divided into ‘before and after’ discovery of ‘Baekwunhwasangchorockjickjisimchaiyojeul’ and a lot of research was practically made after the discovery. This report was written for examination of the research trend on ‘before-the-discovery of ‘Jeungdogaza’. and also for estimation of research subject being made on ‘after-the-discovery’ in the future. The future research can be divided into before and after the discovery of ‘Jeungdogaza’. Through the discovery of ‘Jeungdogaza’, re-discussion of expected origin theory, the research expansion of practical printing and printed book, historic technical re-discussion of method of type casting and making cast was reviewed and summarized for some research subjects. This approach of research can be helpful of suggesting our research direction for academic evaluation of the latest ‘Jeungdogaza’ as well as for scientific Research summarization of the Metal-type Printing. With checking the latest research trend, generally more efforts should be made to look into literature grounds in addition to adding more historic technical aspect of research and making different experimental research.
