다문화 실천인력의 다문화 경험과 문화적 역량에 대한 탐색적 고찰 = Exploratory study on experience in multiculture and cultural competence of service providers in multicultural settings

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 민족적 다양성 확대에 따른 사회적 다문화화를 배경으로 다문화 실천인력의 문화적 역량의 실태를 파악하고, 다문화 경험에 따른 문화적 역량의 차이를 고찰하려는 목적으로 이루어졌다. 사회조사연구로 설계되었으며 문화적으로 다양한 배경을 지닌 다문화 클라이언트에게 직접서비스를 제공한 경험이 있는 다문화 실천인력 420명의 자료를 분석했다. 우리나라 다문화 실천인력의 문화적 역량은 문화적 지식, 문화적 인식, 문화적 기술 모두 비교적 높은 것으로 나타났다. 외국방문, 외국거주, 외국인 친구, 외국어 능력 등의 사적 경험에 따라 주로 문화적 인식과 문화적 기술에 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 다문화 기관 근무기간, 서비스를 제공한 다문화 클라이언트 수, 현 근무기관유형, 현 근무기관의 다문화 클라이언트 비율, 다문화 관련 교육 경험 등의 전문적 경험에 따라서는 주로 문화적 지식과 문화적 기술에 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 연구결과가 우리나라 다문화 실천인력의 문화적 역량 증진에 함의하는 바를 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to explore the experience in multi-culture and cultural competence of service providers in multi-cultural settings guided by growing multiculturalism in current Korean society. Survey research design was employed and data from 420 subjects who had ever provided direct services to clients with multicultural backgrounds were analyzed. Results showed that the general levels of cultural competence among the subjects were fairly high. According to visiting foreign countries, residing in foreign countries, and having friends from foreign countries, there were significant differences in cultural awareness and cultural skills across groups. Also, based on years in service setting, years providing multicultural services, and numbers of multicultural clients to whom provided services, there were significant differences in cultural knowledge and cultural skills.
