This paper is started from the following question; Indeed, do yulgok``s thoughts on national defence still have important implications? Because today``s discussion about national defence considers nation and military power-centric realism as the basic and traditional position. According to the viewpoint of realism, Confucian-thoughts on national defence that emphasizes justice and virtue more than benefit and power are too unrealistic or idealistic. But we can approach his thoughts from a more enlarged and deepened perspective on national security, from beyond realist viewpoint. And his thoughts are given new view to our times that try to find a post-competitive nation paradigm and a human future in worldwide level. Therefore this paper is focused on How is yulgok``s national defence paradigm structured? and Where is the philosophical basis of his paradigm? than Which specific national defence policies were proposed by him? According to this, in the part of main subject, this paper treats the trust issue as the basic foundation of his thoughts on national defence and ``being opportune``(時宜) issue which is a principle to apply in various situations of the age. And in the conclusion, this paper organizes what might be the several important meanings that these issues give us today.
