프랑크푸르트학파 100년의 역사와 ‘이성-자유-비판’ 패러다임의 전환 = The 100-Year History of the Frankfurt School and the Paradigm Shift of the “Reason-Freedom-Criticism

국문 초록 (Abstract)

올해로 프랑크푸르트학파가 100주년을 맞았다. 프랑크푸르트학파의 산실인 ‘사회연구소’가 설립된 지 100년이 되었기 때문이다. 본 논문은 100년의 역사를 이어온프랑크푸르트학파를 하나의 학파로 규정할 수 있는 이유를 규명할 뿐만 아니라, 그동안 제시된 다양한 이론을 하나의 학파로 묶을 수 있는 이들 상호 간의 관계를 해명하려고 한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 프랑크푸르트학파가 ‘이성 실현을 통한 자유실현’이라는 규범적 이상 하에 이성, 자유, 비판 개념으로 구성된 특수한 이론 복합체를 제시했다고 보면서, 호르크하이머, 하버마스, 호네트로 이어지는 비판이론 변천사를 각기 노동, 소통, 투쟁 개념에 기초한 패러다임 전환으로 해석할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Frankfurt School, because it has been 100 years since the establishment of the “Social Research Institute,” the birthplace of the Frankfurt School. This paper aims not only to demonstrate, why the Frankfurt School, which has continued its history for 100 years, can be defined as a single academic tradition, but also to clarify the relationships among the various theories that can bind them into one school. To achieve this aim, the paper argues that the Frankfurt School presented a unique theoretical complex composed of the concepts of reason, freedom, and critique, under the normative ideal of “realizing freedom through realizing reason.” It interprets the evolution of critical theory, which continues through Horkheimer, Habermas, and Honneth, as a paradigm shift based on the concepts of labor, communication, and struggle.
