Al₂O₃-filled epoxy resin composites system was studied with the linear elastic fracture mechanics and its mechanical properties. The effect of the Al₂O₃partical volume fraction(Vp)were also studied.
The Young's modulus increased significantly with Vp, it shows empirical equation, Ec=Em(1-Vp_-2 56. The yield stress also increased with Vp, however, plastic flow appeared before fracture for low value of Vp and un-filled epoxy resin matrix.
Between crack velocity of 10-5 and 10-1m/sec, the crack propagation occured in continuous and stable manner, so the stress intensity factor and crack opening displacement reached maximum values for Vp of 0.14/0.21.
