Most critics have called Arthur Miller' social dramtist' or moralist' because he had an interest in the relation between society and man and man's responsibility for society and other man in his early plays, such as All my Sons, Death of a Salesman. But, when he returned to the theatre in 1964, after an absence of eight years, he wrote plays with a new subject and purpose. Instead of social and political issues, he focused on the individual experiences themselves. Miller's plays which wre written in the 1960s deal with the theme of insight and responsibility, the loss of illusion and its consequences.
The Price is concerned with the quest and affirmation of reality. It feels its way painfully towards affirmation through confrontation. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the method, the process and the result of Victor's self-recognition through confrontion with his brother, Walter. Victor recognizes that there is the price to be paid in life.
