The increase in single people who are not married and rely on their parents not only has a negative impact on them and their families but can also cause significant socioeconomic losses. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for constructing a marriage preparation education program as lifelong education by investigating the background of the phenomenon of singleness and the lifestyles of singles. A survey was conducted on the lifestyles of unmarried male and female adults in their 30s living in large cities and urban-rural cities from November to December 2023. For the survey, the researcher visited the company in person, explained the purpose to the human resources manager, requested the survey, collected it, and then collected it directly. For the collected data, the frequency and percentage of each question were calculated to determine the overall response trend. The cohabitation rate between adult children and their parents was high in both large cities and urban-rural combined cities. By gender, the proportion of women was higher. Regardless of region, parents were found to faithfully assist to their children living with them. In the case of women, the rate of not being economically independent in large cities and the rate of not being emotionally independent in urban-rural complex cities was higher than that of men. It was found that cohabitation with parents relatively delays the independence of the young generation. It was suggested that the development and active implementation of a marriage preparation education program is necessary as a lifelong educational task to help adult children become independent through marriage since it is expected that single people may have difficulty preparing for retirement once they reach middle age, a life transition support system should be established, such as disseminating marriage preparation education and life planning education programs in the area of lifelong learning and linking them with counseling services.
