우편의 시대와 신소설 = Shinsoseol in the age of the postal systems

This study focuses on analyzing how the meaning of ``postal letter`` has transformed from the inserted letter in a story of ancient times(古代小說) to the letter form in a modern letter-style novel(書簡體小說), as a part of trying to investigate how the first organization of the postal system in 1910`s lead the process of the modern writing(ecriture) transfiguration. Especially, through showing how the relation of the calligraphy in the novel text and the subject identifying it transit in <Blood tear>(血의淚) written by Lee Injik(李人稙, 1862~1916), known as the first Shinsoseol, I try to find that Lee injik, the author, intended to show that Okryun(``옥련``), a heorin, going over the intimate frontier of Chosun to the unfamiliar territory of Japan and USA undergo the detachment from the familiar, arising from the modern transformation of writing. He, also, had a intention of taking general readers of Shinsoseol, published in news papers, Manse newspaper(만세보), 1906, into a recipient of Okryun`s letter in the last part of his novel. It is thought upon the modern achievement of <Blood tear> in the view of writing transformation, parole to ecriture, literature work to text. After <Blood tear>, lots of Shinsoseol made a subject matter of a letter in modern postal system. It`s meaning varied from the only fragmentary material to the important theme showing modernity. This study tries to find the serial transformation of the letter appeared in <Blood tear>, through <Songnoegeum(松뢰琴) written by Yuk Jeongsu(陸定洙) in 1908, to <Wolhagain>(月下佳人) by Lee haejo(李海朝, 1869~1927). In Yuk Jeongsu`s work, however, the linguistic exteriority of outside world was thought not more sufficiently described than <Blood tear>, which could be known by finding whether it was described that a hero(in) suffered and felt uncertainty in different linguistic world. Though this work was to succeed to the previous subject, the letter from the different world, it couldn`t reach the meaningful achievement of <Blood tear> in the side of writing at least. <Songnoegeum>, however, is set high value on the initiative of the subject, dealing in Hawaii labor emigration fraud with criticism. In <Wolhagain>(1911), Lee haejo made a description of this is sueagain. Not a work of Yuk Jeongsu, he achieved the description of the exteriority through the partition of the civilization and the savageness(in novel hero can interpret with a Chinese and a American very well, but can`t listen Mexican ``native``) and made a letter from another world the subject of modernity. After the organization of postal system, a letter from oversea spur the infinite desire to the extreme tempo toward the center of modernity.
