다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

This paper examined the baptismal names that Joseon Catholics had before 1801, the process of getting their baptismal names, and the types, characteristics, and meanings of the baptismal names, and its results are as per the below:
First, most of Joseon Catholics in the end of the 18th century obtained baptismal names through four routes: ① leader Catholics; ② missionaries in China; ③ ceremonial supplementation [補禮] by Father Ju Mun-mo; and ④ baptism by Father Ju Mun-mo.
Second, except for the unknown, there were 45 baptismal names that male Catholics had. Of the 45 baptismal names, the names of 12 apostles were selected by 63 Catholics (54.3%) as baptismal names, which exceeded a majority. Peter, Thomas, John, and Paul were selected most. Martyred saints, popes, and bishops were selected by 15 Catholics (12.9%) each too. 'John the Baptist' or members of Society of Jesus, which have a special meaning, were selected as baptismal names too. This tendency of baptismal names shows a part of Catholics' consciousness in the period of the foundation of the church, that is, their intention to play the roles of the saints for the maintenance and settlement of the church.
Third, the baptismal names of female Catholics were characterized by virginity and martyrdom, which tells that their real life tended to resemble the saints'.
Fourth, before Father Ju came to Joseon, 62.3% of Catholics had baptismal names and male catholics who had the names of "apostles or martyred saints" as their baptismal names were overwhelmingly a lot. It shows Catholics' efforts, roles, and resolution to maintain and develop the church in the period when there was no pastor. These efforts of Catholics became the background for the settlement and development of Joseon Catholic church in the end of the 18th century.
Finally, Catholics' consciousness found in the baptismal names played an important role in the development of Joseon church in the end of the 18th century, and in the process that Catholics, who had the consciousness, reproduced a new group of Catholics through education, the total number of Catholics seems to have increased. That is, through education, Catholics got to have a thorough understanding of the saints of their baptismal names, and they tried to follow the saints, which seems to have been connected with the expansion and development of the church.
