      This study was to investigate learners’ perception and attitude toward task types in task-based language learning via synchronous computer-mediated communication (CMC). Two types of tasks were used in this study. The first one was a lexically focused task which strongly induces learners to use target vocabulary, and the other one was a non-lexically focused task where earners were not required to use the target vocabulary while performing the task. In this study, two classes of university level Korean EFL students (N=71) who completed two different types of task-based language learning answered the questionnaire. The questionnaire was employed to collect their opinions of interest, usefulness, efficiency, and difficulty of the learning experience. In addition, twelve of them (six students per group) were interviewed individually. The interviews were held in order to interpret the questionnaire data. The result shows that both groups of students demonstrated positive attitude toward task-based language learning in synchronous CMC. On the contrary, in two aspects, motivation and vocabulary acquisition, the higher percentage of students with the lexically focused task felt positively than the other group. This concluded that a lexically focused task is an effective and viable tool in terms of learner’s attitude and perception.
