This study is on Song Sun, who lived in the 16th century, and his works. It aims to study in detail the life of Song Sun and his 23 short poems (Danga), kasa and Chinese poems.
Song Sun was born in Kikokri, Bongsan-Myun, Damyang-Gun, Cheonnam, in the 24th year of king Sung Jong of the Yi-Dynasty. He was praised for his poetic talent, composing poems when he was only three years old. He was taught by Song Heum, Park Sang, Park Woo and Song Soi-rim who were great scholars of that time, and passed the civil service exam, when he was 27 years old. He started his governmental service at the post of Seungmoonwonbujeongja at age 27 and subsequently was in many other important posts, ending his governmental service at the post of Euijeongbu Woochamchan at age 77. After retirement, he spent the last 14 years of his life a t his home town, composing poems and discussing poems with many friends.
About 100 friends and younger colleagues are mentioned in his a collection of works. Amoung them, Kim In-hoo, Yang San-bo, Shin Kwang-han, Song Sei-yeon, Jeong Manjong, Jeong Cheol, Ki Dae-seung and Lim Jae were his intimate friends.
He was recognized to be a great scholar and poet, leaving many poems and achievements when he died at age 90.
Song Sun attached great importance to tolerance and virtue. Although many bureaucrats and scholars died as the result of government reforms and as a result of the many calamities of savants during his time, he remained undamaged through his tolerance and virtue,
The literary works of song Sun which are collected in his collection of works, Myunangjib, are divided into three pants.
The first part is one kasa, "Myunangjeongga", It is considered to be one of the representative kasa works of the Yi-Dynasty because of its beautiful poetic language and excellent from and content. It is considered to have Seen composed under the influence of SangChungok by Jeong Geuk-in. But in this study, a new view is presented to the effect that "Myunangjeongga" was composed under the influence of Lee Seo's "Lakjiga".
Although only "Myunangjeongga" has survived the present day, this study suggests that other kasa, including "Mudunggok" might have been composed by him.
Secondly, his short poems (Danga), formed of seven poems of "Myunangjeong-danga", two of "Myunangjeongjabga", one of "Jasangteuksahwangkugokdangga", one of "Monggyunjusangga", three of "Chisaga", five of "Oryunga", one of "Sang chunga", and one of "Yunhaengga", are collected in Mwnangjib, In addition, three poems by Song Sun are collected in "Chungguyeongeon" But it is difficult to say for sure'whether these poems in "Chungguyeongeon" are Song Sun's works, because they are also considered to be Song In's works, Song Sun's short poems have the characteristic form of "Younjangchaedanga" and " Janghyongdanga", and it was Song Sun who attempted to compose "Oryunga" in the form of short poems (danga).
Third, the Chinese poems of song Sun number more than 500, most of which deal with natural landscapes and pastoral life, But his Chinese poems have duality in that "Muningagok", "Mungaega" and "Takmoktan", composed when he was 37 years old, deal with the suffering people and inspire them in the spirit of resistance.
Son Sun composed poems and discussed poems and other matters with many friends in Myunangjeong, his arbor. But he composed them to be heard and sung, not to be merely read and appreciated,
In conclusion, Song Sun's kasa and short poems are great masterpieces in the terms of form and content in the history of Korean literature, although his chinese poems are also excellent. Hence Song Sun can he considered to be one of the greatest poets in the history of Korean literature, having exercised an important influence on the Honam poetry group as well as on Jeong Cheol and Hwangjinee.
