브루너 내러티브와 듀이 질성적 사고의 상보적 가능성 탐구 = Exploring the Complementary Possibilities of Bruner’s Narrative and Dewey’s Qualitative Thought

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 브루너가 소위 후기 이론에서 주장하는 내러티브와 듀이의 경험이론의 핵심적 토대인 질성적 사고의 상보적 가능성을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 전통적인 서양철학을 기반으로 하는 교육은 지금까지 이원론에 경도되어 있어서 이에 따른 교육적 문제가 대두되었다. 듀이는 이원론적 교육 문제를 극복하려는 시도 속에서 경험의 본질을 설명하는 ‘질성적 사고’에 주목하였다. 특히 그는 인식론적인 일원론을 설명하며 ‘하나의 경험’으로 분절적인 지식이 아닌 총제적인 지식을 설명하였다. 한편 브루너 또한 그의 저서 여러 부분에서 듀이가 이야기하는 ‘질성’의 개념과 밀접하게 관련되는 ‘직관’과 ‘내러티브’의 개념을 제시하였다. 특히 그의 내러티브는 듀이의 ‘질성적 사고’와 상보적인 통합 가능성이 있으며 이는 교육적으로 매우 풍부한 가능성을 가진다. 그래서 본 연구에서는 이 가능성에 초점을 두고 내러티브의 생성적 입장에서 교육의 방향성을 모색하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 두 학자의 주요 저작물과 그에 관한 2차 문헌 분석을 통한 철학적 논의 방식을 채택하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the complementary possibility of Bruner's narrative and Dewey's ‘qualitative thought’. Education concentrated on traditional Western philosophy is based on dualism, and accordingly educational problems have emerged with separated knowledge from experience. Dewey tried to overcome such a dualistic educational problem. In particular, he explained monism, not as segmental knowledge, but as a whole knowledge as 'an experience'. He also suggested the possibility of education that looks at the world through 'qualitative thought'. Meanwhile, Bruner also explains the concept of thought with the concept of ‘intuition’, which is consistent with the concept of ‘quality’ that Dewey talks about. In particular, Bruner's narrative has the potential to be complementary to Dewey’s ‘qualitative thought’. It has a lot of educational potential when we try to integrate and organize experience into a narrative. Therefore, this study focused on the complementary possibility, and we attempt to explore the direction of education from the generative nature of narrative.
