근현대 부조 조각의 제작기법 연구를 통한 과학적 보존처리: 권진규 作 <새우>를중심으로 = A Study on Scientific Conservation Treatment of Modern and Contemporary Relief Sculptures Based on Their Production Technique: A Case Study on <Shrimp> by Jin-kyu Kwon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 근현대 부조 조각의 보존처리 과정을 서술하였으며, 작품에 사용된 재료의과학 분석을 통한 검증의 중요성을 강조하였다. 연구 대상인 권진규 작가의 <새우>는 기증당시 소장기관에서 제작기법을 ‘시멘트’로 제공하였으나, 표면 관찰 결과 다른 재료로 제작한것이 확인되어 작품에 사용된 재료에 대한 검증이 필요하였다. 과학분석 및 조사연구를 통해<새우>는 석고에 시멘트를 재료로 사용하였으며, 1960년대 복합재료를 이용하여 작품 활동하였던 권진규 작가의 작품 제작 방법과 일치하였다. 이를 바탕으로 작품 제작 재료 정보를 ‘석고에 시멘트’로 변경하였으며, 보존처리에 사용할 재료로 석고와 시멘트를 함께 선정하여 처리하였다. 보존처리 과정은 작업을 위한 작품 지지대를 제작 및 활용하여 근현대 문화유산에서 다양한 보존처리 방법을 선택 및 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 제시할 수 있었다.

This study described the preservation process of modern and contemporary relief sculptureand emphasized the importance of identification of the used materials through scientific analysis.
<Shrimp> by Jin-kyu Kwon, was described as a “cement” object by the collection agency at the timeof donation. However, in surface observation, it was assumed that various materials other than cementwere used. Through scientific analysis and research, <Shrimp> was identified as cement work ongypsum plaster base. It was consistent with the production technique of Jin-kyu Kwon, who workedusing ‘mixed media’ in the 1960s. Based on this, the material information of the work was correctedas ‘cement on gypsum(plaster)’ . Thus gypsum and cement were selected as conservation materialsfor the treatment. Considering this, a support frame was devised and applied in the conservationtreatment of <Shrimp>. This study would present the possibility of selecting and applying suitableconservation treatment methods for modern and contemporary sculptures.
