마삼락(Samuel H. Moffett)의 선교적 교회론 형성 배경에 관한 소고 = A Study on the Background and Process of the Formation of Missional Ecclesiology by Samuel H. Moffett

국문 초록 (Abstract)

마삼락(Samuel H. Moffett)의 선교적 교회론 형성 배경에 관한 소고본 논문은 마삼락(馬三樂, Samuel H. Moffett, 1916-2015)의 선교적 교회론 형성 배경에 관한 이해와 선교적인 함의를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 마삼락 선교사는 평양에서 마포삼열(Samuel A. Moffett, 1864-1939) 선교사의 셋째아들로 태어나 평양외국인학교, 미국 휘튼대학교, 프린스턴신학교를 거쳐 1945년 예일대학교에서 박사학위를 받는다. 중국교회를 주제로 박사학위논문을 쓴 마삼락은 1947년 중국 선교사로 파송을 받는다. 그러나 1951년 공산주의 영향으로 추방을 당한다. 그는 기독교 복음의 능력으로 공산주의 이념을 극복하기 위하여 기독교의 사회참여를 강조하고 그 대안으로 설정한다. 이후 1955년 한국 선교사로 파송을 받고 26년간 한국교회의 지도력 양성과 신학교육에 이바지한다. 1959년 마삼락은 한국교회 분열의 역사 속에서 연합과 일치를 도모하였고 세계교회와의 협력에 앞장선다. 그가 중국 공산주의 영향으로 추방을 경험한 사람이었음에도 한국교회 분열 역사에서는 용공(容共) 논쟁에 휘말려 오해를 받기도 한다. 복음의 능력, 교회의 연합, 사회 참여를 함께 균형 있게 강조한 마삼락은 교회의 자기봉쇄(自己封鎖)가 선교를 방해하는 걸림돌이고 연합을 해치는 죄라고 비판한다. 그는 교회의 본질은 선교와 연합을 위한 부르심에 있음을 상기시킨다. 마삼락의 선교적 교회론은 복음의 능력을 전하는 교회가 그리스도의 몸임을 강조하면서 하나의 제자 공동체가 되라는 예수님의 명령에 입각한 본질적인 연합을 강조한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A Study on the Background and Process of the Formation of Missional Ecclesiology by Samuel H. Moffett The purpose of this paper is to examine the understanding of background and implications of missional ecclesiology with the perspective of Samuel H. Moffett(1916-2015). He was born in Pyongyang as the third son of Samuel A. Moffett(1864-1939). He studied Pyongyang Foreign School, Wheaton College, and Princeton Theological Seminary, and received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1945, under the supervision of Kenneth S. Latourette. He was sent as a missionary to China in 1947. However, in 1951, he was subject to involuntary withdrawal due to communist influence. He emphasizes Christian social participation and sets it up as an alternative to overcome communist ideology with the power of the Christian gospel. Afterwards, he was sent as a missionary to Korea in 1955 and contributed to leadership training and theological education in the Korean church for 26 years. In 1959, He promoted church unity in the history of division in the Korean church and took the lead in cooperation with the world churches. Although he was a person who experienced exile due to the influence of Chinese communism, in the context of schism in Korean church, he was caught up in the controversy over pro-communism and was sometimes misunderstood. He, who emphasized the power of the gospel, the unity of the church, and social participation in a balanced way, criticizes the church for self-containment, which is an obstacle to missionary work and a sin that harms the unity of church. He reminds us that the essence of the church lies in its call for mission and unity. His missionary ecclesiology emphasizes not only the fact that the church that spreads the power of the gospel is the church as the body of Christ, but also the essential unity of the church based on Jesus’ command to become one toward the community of disciples.
