국제결혼이민과 국민 · 민족 정체성 = 결혼이민자와 그 자녀의 자아 정체성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국사회에서는 2000년대 초부터 결혼을 매개로 이민 온 외국인과 그 자녀의 수가 급격히 늘고 있다. 이민자 수의 증가는 순수혈통에 기반을 둔 단일민족 개념을 신봉해 온 한국사회에 큰 충격을 던져주었다. 이 연구는 결혼이민자 유입이 이루어진 초기 상태인 2006년에 수행된 표본조사 자료를 분석하여 결혼이민자와 자녀의 국민과 민족에 관련된 자아 정체성을 파악한다. 한국사회가 다양한 문화를 지닌 이민자를 통합하는 것이 과제로 제기되기 시작한 시점에서, 국민·민족·인종의 복합적 상호작용에 의하여 자아 정체성이 만들어지는 과정을 추적한다. 한국사회의 이민자 사회통합에 대한 사회학적 쟁점을 본격적으로 다루고 있는 이 연구는 정부의 정책과 시민사회의 실천에도 함의를 준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The steep increase of the number of marriage-based immigrants and their children has given a strong strike to Korean citizens having imaginary concept of homogeneous society. The purpose of this paper is to investigate marriage-based immigrants’ and their children’s self identification of Koreanness with regard to ethnic and civic nationhood. Using the nationwide survey data from the Marriage-Based Immigrants and Their Families in Korea: Current Status and Policy Measures conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2006, and other related researches, this paper analyzes the dynamics of their Korean identity. This paper also discusses their integration to Korean society, and stresses the necessity of reconstructing nationalism in Korea.
