Early childhood requires character education due to its abundant plasticity. However, today`s early childhood education focuses more on knowledge rather than on manner for everyday life, which results in problems of ``dehumanization`` and ``absence of character education.`` In this paper, we aimed to find alternatives to solve these problems from Sohak, the foundation for child textbooks in the Joseon dynasty and major textbook for character education. Based on early childhood education methods and contents found in Sohak, we examined the modern education program based on lessons from the past` and ``learning model`` and investigated into the applicability of them to modern early childhood character education. This study was designed to provide a basis to apply Korean traditional manner education to today`s education situations and deduct a learning program for early childhood character education. We hope that this study will pave the way for a qualitative ``character education.``
