김숨의 초기 소설에 나타난 가족 = A Family in the early Novels of Kim Sum

The operating point which narrative tentacles of Kim Sum’s novels which motivate the subversive imagination and the bizarre aura into core narrative materials mobilize sensitively is the ‘family’. Nevertheless, most studies to the Kim Sum’s novels paid no attention to the issues of family in the Kim Sum novels. Based on these critical mind, this treatise started with purpose of research which inquire and investigate the meaning of family in the in the Kim Sum novels. For these critical and purpose, this treatise limited to early texts which is the target of discussion. This article has two major tasks to be performed. One is the work which was to reveal the representation of fatherhood and motherhood that emerged in objective laws in the early novels. The other is to reveal the symbolic implications of the space and the animals that function as allegorical representations. The ultimate purpose this article through these two works was to explore kimsum’s critical mind to the family of modern society.
Father and mother who appear in the early novels of kim sum is character who are sharing the cover of missing and lack. The famalies which appeared in the early novels of Kim Sum far from space of trust and intimacy which based on affection and kinship. The space and animal symbol which function as allegorical representation in the early novels of Kim Sum function as important narrative devices to reflect criticak mind to the families. Space and animal symbol which function as allegorical representations in the early novels of kim sum is mostly dark almost closed. Animals also have an aversive and grotesque image. Writers through these narrative settings reflects the critical mind to the family which want to castrate freedom and desire the individual by the command and control of the patriarch.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

전복적인 상상력과 엽기적인 기운을 핵심적인 서사의 질료로 동원하는 김숨 소설의 서사적 촉수가 민감하게 작동하는 지점은 ‘가족’이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 김숨 소설에 대한 기존의 논의들에서 가족의 문제를 본격적으로 천착하고 탐색하는 작업은 거의 이루어진 바가 없다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 이 글은 김숨의 소설에 나타난 가족의 의미를 탐색하고 천착해보고자 하는 목적을 가지고서 출발하였다. 이러한 문제의식과 목적을 위해 이 글은 논의의 대상을 초기 소설들로 한정하였다. 초기 소설들을 대상으로 한 이 글이 수행하고자 하는 작업은 크게 두 가지였다. 하나는, 김숨의 초기 소설에서 객관적인 법칙성을 가지고서 등장하는 부성과 모성의 표상을 밝혀내는 작업이었다. 다른 하나는, 알레고리적 표상으로 기능하는 공간과 동물의 상징적 함의를 밝혀내는 작업이었다. 이 두 가지의 작업을 통해서 이 글이 궁극적으로 드러내고자 하는 바는 현대 사회의 가족에 대한 김숨의 문제의식을 탐색하는 것이었다.
김숨의 초기 소설에 등장하는 아버지와 어머니는 한결같이 결락과 결핍의 표지를 공유하고 있는 인물들이다. 김숨의 초기 소설에 등장하는 가족은 애정과 혈연 관계를 바탕으로 구성된 신뢰와 친밀성의 공간과는 전혀 거리가 멀다. 결락과 결핍의 표지를 공유하는 부성과 모성과 함께 김숨의 초기 소설에는 알레고리적 표상으로 기능하는 공간과 동물 상징이 가족에 대한 문제의식을 반영하는 중요한 서사 장치로 기능하고 있다. 김숨의 초기 소설에 알레고리적 표상으로 기능하는 공간은 거의 대부분 어둡고 폐쇄적이며, 동물들 또한 혐오스럽거나 그로테스크한 이미지를 지니고 있다. 이러한 서사 설정을 통해 작가는 가족을 가부장의 독선적인 명령과 통제에 의해 개인의 자유의지나 욕망이 식민화되고 거세되는 억압과 질곡의 공간으로 전유하고자 하는 문제의식을 반영하고 있다.
