Yi Gwang-Su, the forerunner of Korean modern literature, claimed the value of literature through the emphasis on the `sentimental education`. It was the first project to give the shape to modern literature. However, the situation was totally different until Yi showed up. The value of sentiment was scarcely commented, and bodily orientation was announced as the main purpose of education. The category of knowledge, virture and body was the conceptual frame and the inner division of knowledge was not formulated clearly. Therefore, literature in its modern meaning was not formulated at that time, and such a circumstance shed a wide-ranged influence on the mode of writing.
