한국 정치인의 부정적 캠페인에 관한 연구 = 2002년 민주당 국민경선제에 관한 언론보도 내용분석을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2002년에 실시된 민주당 국민경선제에 관한 언론보도를 통해 후보자의 부정적 캠페인 현황과 내용을 살펴보았다. 신문 717건, 방송 151건의 기사활 내용분석한 결과 긍정적 내용 및 부정적 내용의 메시지 양은 비슷하였다. 이 중 이인제와 노무현 두 후보의 메시지가 분석에 사용된 캠페인 메시지의 59.8%를 차지해 경선의 양축을 형성한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 이인제 후보의 경우 언론에 보도된 캠페인 메시지의 절반 이상(62.5%)이 부정적인 내용을 담고 있어 부정적 캠페인을 가장 적극적으로 전개한 것으로 확인되었다. 매체별로는 방송보다 신문이 부정적 캠페인 메시지의 구체적인 내용을 더 많이 보도한 것으로 나타났다. 경쟁 후보의 정책(이슈)에 관한 부정적 언급은 후보자 사이에 차이를 보였지만, 인간적 차원 (이미지)에서는 유의한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 후보 모두 경쟁자의 정책(이슈)이나 인간적 차원(이미지)율 부정적으로 표현할 때는 주로 직접공격 방식을 채택한 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the use of negative campaigning in the am Millenium Democratic Party′s presidential nominating. This study investigates how the candidates′ negative campaigns are treated by the press. 1bere is a main research question in the study: What are the differences of contents in negative campaigning among candidates? The method of content analysis was utilized to answer the above research question systematically. For the study, a total of 868 articles were content-analyzed The sample was gathered from the four daily newspapers-Chosun Ilbo, Joong-Ang Ilbo, Dong- A Ilbo, and Hankyoreh-and main evening news programs of KBS, MBC, and SBS during the period of January 7 through April 29.
Results of content analysis show that in the use of negative campaigning a significant difference was found among candidates during the am Millenium Democratic Party′s presidential nominating process. And regarding the valences of reporting, the chi-square test results suggest that negative campaigning executed by candidates tend to be published using quotation marks, if placed in a medium. This proves that candidates′ campaigning is regarded as a credible news source by the media and attacking the opponents is an effective tool for election campaigning.
