Pantothenic acid is believed to be a precursor of acetylcholine through its incorporation into co-enzyme A. Pantothenic acid belongs to the vitamin B group and is thought to be essential for human nutrition. We studied the clinical effects of pantothenic acid for restoration of normal intestinal peristalsis in 90 patients, and control group in 85 patients after abdominal surgery. In study(Stenol) group, the mean time of postoperative gas passage in cesarean section, salpingectomy, TAH and radical hysterectomy was 51.9, 46.1, 52.4, 59.8, hours respectively. While in control(placebo)group, the mean time of postoperative gas passage in cesarean section, salpingectomy, TAH and radical hysterectomy 65.9, 61.2, 70.9, 79.8 hours respectively. In conclusion, Dexapanthenol(Stenol ) have a significant effect in the reduction of bowel peristalsis.
