Metaphor has been treated as expression method in korean language education. But a metaphor is not only expression method but also thinking method. So, we have to use metaphor as educational method. Like-reading is an example of educational method using metaphor. Like-reading means such reading that students read as if a man whom students already have acquainted with have to do in his occupation. Like-reading is very efficient reading instruction method in the point of pitting to reading nature, to cognitive developmental levels of elementary students, and to our oriental cultural traits. Like-reading consists of six basic types. : ‘Reading-like-a-painter’, ‘Reading-like-a-spokesperson’, ‘Reading-like-a-detective’, ‘Reading-like-aactor’, ‘Reading-like-a-judge’, ‘Reading-like-a-inventor’. We can use the former three for interpreting text and the latter three for responding to text. And we can make more types of Like-reading by broadening means of metaphor. We have to construct long term program in order to accustomed students to Like-reading. This program may be consisted of four steps : plan - understand - perform - development.
