2. What is an improvement plan for play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities in a class of fully five year olds?
3. Which influence does the operating improvement in play plans-practice -evaluation of free choice activities in a class of fully five year olds have upon young children and a teacher?
This study was carried out in Haengbokban class of fully five year olds at Sarang kindergarten, which is a kindergarten attached to elementary school where is located in Seoul. The research subjects include 28 young children in Haengbokban class and 1 teacher who is a teacher in charge of the class and a researcher. The researcher observed the whole of operating play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities in Haengbokban class, talked with young children, and grasped problems. After seeking a solution based on a discussion with young children and a relevant documentary consideration, the specific plan was established and implemented. The research period was progressed in order of recognizing a problem, seeking a solution, the primary practice & evaluation, and the secondary practice & evaluation, and the evaluation on the primary & secondary practice plan from August 18, 2014 to November 10. To know the research results, the analysis was made by collecting audio recording, video shooting, research journal, and field notes.
The following are the conclusions that were obtained through this study.
First, as a result of analyzing a problem about play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities in a class of fully five year olds, the reflection of young children's interest and concern was being limited by restricting number of interest area that can be chosen given the play plans and by making it literally practice what was planned at first. Young children were suffering a great difficulty due to limiting number of personnel available for attendance in interest area given practicing a play and to using a play name tag, and were failing to participate in a play stably because the play time is short and irregular. An insignificant expression method in a large group in case of evaluating a play failed to offer an opportunity for young children to reflectively think and possibly expand a play.
Second, to solve a problem about play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities in Haengbokban class, the improvement plans were sought and implemented. The primary practice didn't limit number of interest area that can be chosen given the play plans, and made it available for reflecting the expansion and a change in a plan depending on an interest and a concern. Given the play practice, the regular play time for 1 hour every day was provided. The remaining time was notified when being left 30 minutes. Given the play evaluation, the debate activity in a small group was utilized. As a result of the primary practice, the play plans based on young children's interest and concern came to be available. Young children could participate in a play with having a sense of stability and came to be able to make the significant play evaluation through a reflective thought. However, it found the need to help plan a play specifically given the play plans and the need to solve a problem that happens in the block play area and sought a plan for the secondary practice.
In the second practice, it helped think specifically a play of being desired given the play plans with literally maintaining the primary practice plan by reflecting the evaluation of the primary practice, and proceeded with solving a problem about the block play area of having been created with removing the limit of personnel number, together with young children. As a result of the primary & secondary practices, the difficulties that young children in Haengbokban class had suffered given the play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities were solved.
Third, examining the influence of the improvement plans for play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities in Haengbokban class upon young children and a teacher, the young children came to experience a truly free choice, proceeded with expanding and developing a play with a specific idea on a play, and were formed positive attitude toward solution. Also, the teacher was increased the positive attitude in solving a problem that occurs in a class, and newly recognized the play plans-practice-evaluation with escaping from the existing frame, thereby having come to carry out the significant play plans-practice-evaluation in young children.
This study has significance in that the necessity was proposed for the reflection on operating the play plans-practice-evaluation of free choice activities, which are being carried out conventionally in early childhood education institution, and that the improvement plan was suggested for problems about the play plans-practice-evaluation, which appear in the actual field.
