황석영의 마술적 사실주의소설에 나타난 민속적 환상과 공동체 지향

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Hwang Soek-yeongs recent novels, Sonnim, Baridegy, Nannigeun Sesang (A Familiar World) transformed Korean traditional oral narratives into modern fantastic novels. They hold fantasy into real events. Those ways of description showed differences from his previous realistic novels. This paper examined the changing processes and significances of his magical realist novels, and gained a result of the following conclusions.
Hwang Seok-yeong’ novels took fantasy to integrate the divided communities that were difficult to represent. The features of the literary fantasy were rejections for regulations and bitter polarities between ’real’ and ‘unreal’. It was fantasy that transformed unreal into ‘real’, and mediated between oppositional communities. The fantasy extracted sameness between different communities to neutralize their differences and portrayed the ideal communities that were ethnic, multicultural, and ecologic.
Those transformed oral narratives reconstructed painful reality and figured their healing. As a results, they gained future-oriented and practical attributes. These were related with ‘Korean style realism’ by Hwang Seok-yeong for enlarging social practical effectiveness in the texts. Nevertheless, because the magical realistic fictions approached social problems ethically and practically, they abstractly shaped the social relations of power and the resistance movement against those.
