This study aims to analysis the Hierarchical structure and the Tributary areas of Korea cities. Focus is drawn not only to the relation between location coefficient of function and city rank-size but also to the structure of central place of each level.
In 1970 years, fifthe-three and, In 1980 years, Seventy urban centers selected each for Analysis have the population over 50,000 in Korea.
Numbers of industry workers are compiled for each cities by the Korea Urban Year Book (Department of the Home Affairs 1984, 1989). With these data, an objective measures devised by Davies, W.K.D. and Huff, R.L. are utilized to assign functional index value and probability of the Hierarchical structures to the cities.
By solving the both equality(model), Hierarchical structure and Tributary area values are derived to find out all the functional characteristics of each urban centers. The functional index values derived are shown in TABLE Ⅲ-1∼Ⅳ-1.
As the result of analysis. It is founded that functional index method by Davies and Huff could be an useful technique for measuring the rank of central places in Korea cities. Analysis of the degree of centrality attained by the total numbers of each type of establistments reveals that centrality varies according to the size of centers.
By multiplying the number of every different type of each given center by the relevant laction coefficient under the consideration of functional weight by the type, centrality values (the degree of the centrality) and derived to findout all the functional charistics of each center(cities).
