The purpose of this study is to clarify the nurses' activities in the primary nursing ward that is composed entirely of single care units. The investigation was executed on 13 nurses in St. Lukes International Hospital medical ward.
The results of this study are summarized as follows.
1. The sickrooms equipped with morden comforts and conveniences reduce the total distance and frequency of the nurses' trips.
2. The nurse counter(sub nurse station) system increases the time and frequency of direct nursing for the patients in the single care units.
3. In the case of sickroom layout, the factor of primary patient deserves a little consideration.
