This paper studies the improved seismic design method for base isolated building structure. To increase the efficiency of the base isolators, it is necessary to select the appropriate natural period of the base isolated structure. Therefore, in this study, the technique for determining optimum period is proposed using the acceleration-displacement relation of spectral response. Also, a comparative study of result of response spectrum analysis and UBC equivalent static analysis for base isolated building is carried out and lateral story force equation for static analysis is proposed. Lateral story force equation proposed in this study provides more accurate seismic analysis results than those of the UBC since the dynamic characteristic of a structure is considered.
