도서지역 중학생의 진로의식에 관한 연구 : 전라남도 도서지역을 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to establish an efficient model of career education in middle school students in island areas by surveying the career consciousness of middle school students in island areas and comparing those of middle school students in cities.
For this purpose, this study refers to previous studies related to educational environment, the concept of career awareness, the theory of career development in islands. The formulated four research questions are as follows:
1. What is the difference in career awareness of middle school students who live in islands and cities?
2. What is the difference in career education of middle school students who live in islands and cities?
3. What is the difference in career exploration of middle school students who live in islands and cities?
4. What is the effective improvement plan of career education?

The subjects of this study were 356 middle school students living in islands in Jeollanamdo, and the period of research was three months from December 2007 to February 2008.
Questionaries based on previous research on career awareness were reorganized for statistical analysis. The SPSS 15.0 Program Package was used to carry out frequency analysis and cross analysis.

The results of this study are summarized as follows:
First, in the aspect of self-understanding, middle school students in island areas have interest in career later than middle school students in cities and there are significant differences between their values and ideas about jobs. With regard to worry, they recognize that 'school records and career' are more serious than for students in cities, which was caused by worse educational environment and lacking of educational foundation.
Secondly, with regard to the view of vocation, middle school students in island areas have less recognition of the necessity of career counseling and the number of career counseling organizations and the career counselors is deficient. Students respond to the questionaries as such that they get career information more according to this order; from their parents, friends or seniors, and internet. It could be considerably different in the process of middle school students in cities getting career information in various ways. Middle school students in island areas respond that they don't get sufficient career education and with regard to content they prefer experimentation and on the spot study to theory.
Thirdly, from the aspect of abilities and attitude concerning the exploration of future career, only 14.8% of students showed obvious plans for their future career, 23.9% don't have any idea of their future career plan, which shows the meaningful difference compared to the result of middle school students in cities. This implies that they don't have enough data for career education and career information.
In the field of future career, while most of the students answer that they want to work at the tertiary and fourth industries, only 3.4%, 4.3% students show that they want work at primary and secondary industry. In the survey of parents' career succession, it shows the negative tendency, which suggests the decrease of population in island areas.

Based on the results of this study, the following discussions are made.
First, the incessant support and interest of the authorities concerned is requested to improve the terrible educational environment in island areas.
Secondly, the cooperative endeavors and support from authorities concerned is necessary to overcome the difference in career consciousness between middle school students in island and middle school students in cities and to develop various career education programs for small scale island school students and and carry them out.
Thirdly, professional counselors should be trained and dispatched to the island areas to provide opportunities for high quality career education. Systematic devices should be designed to enforce the individual counseling according to the developmental stage of middle school students in island areas and this should be managed within the curriculum purposely and systematically.
Fourthly, the way to utilize the database including seniors from their regions and respectable career people and application of it to the students' career education could be considered to build the career consciousness of middle school students in island areas. The development of programs to activate both individual and group counseling by through regular visits and individual and group counseling using the internet is required.
Fifthly, this paper only shows the career consciousness of the middle school students on islands. The following survey of the career consciousness of teachers who work in islands and the parents who are in charge of most of career counseling is thought to be necessary.
