북한 “핵미사일” 위협에 대한 장기적/안정적 대비방향: 미사일 방어망 구축 = The South Koreas`s Long-term ond Stable Preparation against the North Korean Nuclear Missile Threat: Establishing Missile Defense Shields

North Korea announced that it succeeded to reduce the size of its nuclear weapons smaller enough to deliver them by missiles just after its third nuclear test on February 12, 2013. It has about 800-1,000 various missiles and the Republic of Korea docs not have sufficient capabilities to hit and kill the missiles, if attacked by them. It is very necessary for the Republic of Korea to hurry up to establish the effective missile shields. First of all, South Korean people should clearly recognize their dire situation that they do not have any effective means of defense against North Korean possible nuclear attack. They need to acquire the PAC-3 system to provide the protection for its strategically important facilities and discuss the suitable and feasible missile defense system of its own. They should establish national level organization to assess the nuclear and missile threats of North Korea. They should demand the Ministry of National Defense to focus on how to deal with North Korean nuclear missile threat and allocate the authority and responsibility for the missile defense to services including Army, Navy and Air Force. They also should closely cooperate with allies, such as U.S. and Japan. It is very high time for the Republic of Korea to do everything possible to protect the people from North Korean nuclear missile threat in the future.
