The purpose of this study was to develop a learning and teaching course which can enhance teaching efficiency of the subject of Technology & Home Economics. Specifically, the unit of 'Dietary Life'provided by the 7th Curriculum was chosen.
Also, the survey was carried out in advance to find out the students' needs which they recognized in the lesson of 'Dietary Life'. The number of the survey respondents were 515, who were the third graders(248 boys and 267 girls) of Middle Schools from Chun Cheon-si and Hong Cheon-gun in Gang Weon-do. The survey had been conducted from June 16, 2008 to June 27, when the unit of 'Dietary Life' was finished.
The results of this survey could be summarized as follows:
First, in the relationship between the realistic utilization and the degree of interest and difficulty in learning each sub unit of 'Dietary Life', the sub unit 'Kinds and Roles of Nutrients' which showed the highest difficulty, had the lowest utilization in the real life. On the other hand, the sub unit of 'Making out Menu and Providing for Meals' which showed the highest interest, had the highest utilization.
Second, the students preferred 'Project Learning' among diverse teaching models the most in learning the unit of 'Dietary Life'. Accordingly, the learning and teaching course applied Project Learning, proposed by Kim Sang Wook(2000) and Park Shin Young(2000) which were based on Kim Dae Hyeon, was developed in this study.
Third, in replying to the question of what kind of cooking practice method students think the most efficient and interesting, 39.2% of the respondents answered 'making different dish by each group and setting the table for one meal', In contrast, only 5.0% of the respondents chose 'making the same dish by all groups' which is practiced prevalently in the school curriculum now.
Fourth, according to the result of the survey item asking learners' estimation for Home Project Learning(Real Learning at Home), the answers to the question if students prefer Home Project Learning to insufficient cooking practice at school showed positive results: 22.5% of respondents chose 'positively would like to', 41.0% of respondents chose 'would like to'.
Therefore, learning and teaching course for Home Project Learning in addition to learning and teaching course for Project Learning Model were developed and presented here.
