The beat.to-beat fluctuations of the RR interval (heart rate variability, HRV) of ECG are ruled by neural mechanisms under control of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), having important applications with many research and clinical uses, such as myocardial infarction, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, etc. Because many researches show its patho-physiological values and expect wide-spreaded uses in the future, we develop a HRV analysis system that can be manufactured at low cost using conventional personal computer (PC). The system is composed of ECG measurement hardware and analysis algorithm. The ECG signal obtained by the ECG measurement part is transmitted to PC, using Bluetooth communication, where the analysiszz algorithm is executed. We confirm the system validity by analyzing HRV during smoking and nonsmoking.
