공급사슬 가시성이 모듈화 및 유연성에 미치는 영향

We empirically show that the effects of supply chain visibility on modularity and new product development flexibility. For the study, the relationships among external visibility of supply chain, internal visibility of supply chain, modularity and new product development flexibility were modelled and validated with hypotheses. An empirical test was performed for a path model using structural equation modeling on samples of 186 manufacturing firms from various industries in South Korea.
This study finds as follows: Firstly, we suggest there are positive relationships among external visibility of supply chain, internal visibility of supply chain, modularity and new product development flexibility. Secondly, the results support that supply chain visibility is important for modularity as strategic choice for new product development flexibility. The lastly, we suggest the importance of supply chain visibility in the perspective of obtaining, sharing and utilization of information. The results of this study allow manufacturing firms to cope with unpredictable customer’s needs with flexibility and obtain differentiated competitiveness.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 공급사슬 가시성과 모듈화 및 신제품개발 유연성간의 구조적 관계를 실증적으로 검증하기 위하여 진행하였다. 이를 위하여 각 변수들간의 관계에 대한 모형을 수립하고, 이를 바탕으로 가설을 실증적으로 검증하였다. 본 연구는 국내 제조기업 186개를 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 구조 방정식 모형을 통해 공급사슬 외부 가시성, 공급사슬 내부 가시성, 모듈화, 신제품개발 유연성 간의 관계를 실증적으로 검증하였다.
결과적으로 공급사슬 내·외부 가시성은 모듈화와 신제품개발 유연성에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 모듈화 또한 신제품개발 유연성 확보에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 신제품개발 유연성을 위한 전략적 선택으로서의 모듈화를 위해서는 공급사슬 내·외부 가시성 확보가 중요함을 제시하였다.
본 연구는 다음과 같은 시사점을 지니고 있다. 첫째, 본 연구는 신제품개발 유연성을 성공적으로 확보하기 위한 전략적 접근으로써 공급사슬 가시성과 모듈화와의 구조적 관계를 제시하였다. 둘째, 모듈화를 공급사슬 관점으로 확대하여 공급사슬 가시성의 중요성을 살펴보았다. 모듈화를 효과적으로 운영하기 위해서는 모듈 결정 기업과 모듈 공급 기업간의 공급사슬 가시성 확보가 중요하다. 마지막으로 본 연구에서는 공급사슬 가시성의 중요성을 공급사슬 내·외부 정보의 획득 및 공유, 이에 대한 활용이라는 측면에서 살펴보았다. 이와 함께 본 연구는 모듈화를 통해 차별화된 경쟁력을 확보하고자 하는 기업의 실무자에게 공급사슬 가시성의 중요성에 대한 함의를 제시하고 있다.
