다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

The objective of this study is to find out how imported television programs influence the existing relationship between the two countries: more specifically, how Amercian-made programs aired in Korea portrayed the U.S.A. and the international order in 1980s. I analyzed three popular programs: CHiPs, MacGyver, and the A-Team. Attention was given to two significant concepts, 'violence' and 'justice'.
For the analysis, I borrowed from Chatman the idea of 'story analysis', which is to gather, describe, and analyze the historical and spatial settings of the show, characteristics of leading roles, and the repeated themes of the show.
All three programs emphasize the social justice: but when it extends to international justice in MacGyver and the A-Team, it represents the superiority of the U.S.: political, economic, and moral superiority. Violence is replaced with authority and speed in CHiPs, and with knowledge and skills in MacGyver. In the A-Team, however, violence is justified as a necessity to achieve the justice, which is sometimes international justice judged by Americans' value.
The Korean audiences learned not only the leading characters and typical narrative structures of the three programs analyzed, but also the narure of America and the international order. Furthermore, the programs offered American viewpoint to look at social and cultural activities. They also delivered the idea of ststus-quo, which could be applied to international relations as well as social structure. Ultimately, they had Koreans to take the current U.s.-led international order for granted.
