The purpose of this study is to develop a ‘Business-specific Ilmeori Competency’ model and systematize its components to help business administration students generate substantial performance in the workplace in response to the rapidly changing industrial environment and the advancement of AI technology. To this end, key business-related literature published between 2016 and 2025 and practitioner articles (e.g., DBR) published after 2022 were analyzed to derive competency factors, and the competency structure was reconstructed from both cognitive and non-cognitive perspectives.
The results show that Ilmeori competency is structured into two main categories: ‘Common Ilmeori Competency,’universally required across all job functions, and ‘Major-specific Ilmeori Competency,’ based on business expertise. Specifically, the Common Competency is divided into Cognitive Competencies (problem definition, problem-solving, communication) rooted in intellectual reasoning, and Non-cognitive Competencies (self-management, relationships, empathy, character) that serve as the emotional foundation for execution. Meanwhile, the Major-specific Competency includes ‘AI Utilization Competency’ for human-AI collaboration, ‘Execution Competency (dynamic/adaptive)’ for rapid response to change, and ‘Leadership Competency’ for leading strategic decisions to organize and solve organizational problems.
This study has academic significance in establishing the concept of 'Ilmeori' as a holistic performance ability—combining attitudes and values beyond simple skill acquisition—by clearly categorizing and systematizing cognitive and non-cognitive elements. Furthermore, it provides a concrete roadmap for practical competencies in business education by emphasizing problem-definition skills as a core competitive edge in the AI era and establishing leadership as an independent major-specific competency. The findings of this study are expected to serve as an objective criterion for designing university curricula and recruiting talent in corporations.
