The Geneva-Korea Conference (1954) was the first international conference trying to resolve Korean issues concerning the Armistice a unified Korean Government by means of free election in Korean peninsula or resumption of the war. Not only the comunists but also the Western powers, which had never intended a war in East Asia, wanted to settle the Korean situation through negotiations betwen North and South Korean parties. Therefore, establishing an agreement for formation of the unified Korean government was the sole aim at the conference. However, the conference did not lead to the unification, but to status quo in Korea because formation of the unified government meant that one of the parties must give up its own dominance. For the present Korean conference of six countries of power, the role of the two super powers (USA and PR China) is important because the unique situation in Korea remains unchanged. The nuclear plant of North Korea is threatening the two countries of power which have been responsible for maintaining the curent ttlement by virtue of eliminating nuclear weapon in the Korean peninsula must be the common goal of the USA and the PR China. If only the issue of nuclear weapon is resolved by these two countries, the unification of Korea may be impossible.
